The LGBT+ Homeland Project

Founded on the 26 December 2018, Urania is an LGBT micronation, inspired by historical attempts at an LGBT state, such as the Stonewall Nation, and the Gay and Lesbian Kingdom of the Coral Sea Islands.
We believe in the right of LGBT people to self-determination, to live equally, without fear from the Government or our neighbours of discrimination. We exist to provide refuge to LGBT people across the world, and to raise the profile of LGBT issues and successes. Our motto, Unus Amor, One Love, is our guiding creed.

The Principality, as per our constitution, gives an automatic Right of Return to LGBT people, to live as citizens of our nation. If you are not LGBT however, fear not: the Principality does not exclude heterosexual citizens, who can obtain citizenship by applying just as a LGBT prospective citizens do, but their citizenship shall be granted on recommendation by the Monarch.

The Sovereign

The Head of State of Urania is the Sovereign, who is styled "[Their] Royal Excellency". They have the power to appoint titles, conduct Urania's foreign affairs, can introduce laws, and signs off legislation. The current Sovereign is Her Royal Excellency, Princess George I.

The Lower House

The Lower House is the elected Chamber of the Uranian Parliament. With 20 seats, the largest party forms Her Royal Excellency's Government. The Leader of the Lower House is the Prime Minister, and his powers concern the internal day-to-day running of the Uranian state. There is currently no Prime Minister of Urania.

The Upper House

The Upper House is the unelected Chamber of the Uranian Government, which is headed by the Sovereign. All of its members are appointed, for life, by the Sovereign, as titled aristocracy of the Uranian state. It reviews and amends legislation proposed by the Lower Chamber.

The Supreme Court

The Supreme Court is the final and ultimate source of judicial authority within Urania, and is responsible for creating common law, interpreting statute, and creating lower courts to adjudicate legal matters. It is comprised of two Deputy Lord Justices, and a President Lord Justice. There is currently no President Lord Justice.

Magnushalden

Capital of Urania

Magnushalden, named after Magnus Hirschfeld, is the capital city of Urania. It is home to Ives Palace, the home of the Uranian Government. It is enclaved by the British County of Surrey.

Nations Recognised by Urania

Here can be found a list of micronations recognised by the Uranian Government, as well as the date they were recognised. If your micronation wishes to be recognised, get in contact!

You can apply for Uranian citizenship here. LGBT+ citizens are given an automatic right to citizenship upon application, per the Uranian Constitution. Heterosexual applicants will have their applications judged by the Sovereign and then either approved or denied.
